From the Kitchen to the Rink: How a Chocolate Bar Became a Fundraiser

From the Kitchen to the Rink: How a Chocolate Bar Became a Fundraiser

Back in December, a parent walked into our shop — eyes a bit tired, voice calm but urgent. Their kid, a rising hockey player, had a shot at making it to a big tournament. Problem was, they needed to raise a bit of cash to get there.

Nothing major. Just enough to cover travel, gear, hotel nights, maybe a pre-game meal or two. The usual youth sports hustle — and yeah, we’ve all seen it before. Car washes, raffle tickets, some half-hearted bake sale in a school parking lot.

But this kid? He had something different. A certain fire behind his story. And maybe I was having a soft day, or maybe I saw something of my younger self in him — but I couldn’t shake the thought: We can do better than this.

So we got to talking.

What if we could help him raise funds in a way that didn’t feel like begging? What if it could be fun, nostalgic, and — this part’s important — actually tasty?

That’s when the idea hit us:
Could we make a chocolate bar that felt like a baseball card?

You know the kind. The ones we traded at recess, stuck in bike spokes, tucked into shoeboxes. Bright, bold, totally personal. Now imagine that kind of storytelling — but wrapped around a handcrafted chocolate bar.

We gave it a shot.  Silver and purple packaging, old-school LA Kings flair, with the athlete’s face on the front like a rookie card. He picked a flavor that reminded him of team road trips — sweet milk chocolate, but made with the real milk you get from the farm.

We launched 50 bars as a test.

Three months later? They were back at our shop, asking for more. Not 50 this time. Bigger. “People keep asking where to get more,” they said.

And that’s when it hit me:
We’re onto something.

This isn’t just about chocolate. This is about giving young athletes a way to fundraise that feels real, that feels earned, and maybe even a little badass.

So we’re opening it up.

The Marsatta Athlete Fundraising Program

Here’s the deal:

  • You get 50 custom bars to start. Each one has your photo on the box, and the flavor? That’s your call. Choose from our classics or for a little extra, work with us to create something brand new — from cereal milk and marshmallows to blood orange and sea salt. If it matters to you, we’ll figure it out.

  • We help you design packaging that tells your story — not just a name slapped on a wrapper.

  • Suggested resale price: $14.75. You keep 100% of what you sell.

How much does it cost to join?

It’s a $500 one-time deposit — that’s it.

That covers:

  • Your custom-designed packaging (with your photo, story, and flavor)

  • Your first 50 chocolate bars, handcrafted in our kitchen

Think of it like your own mini chocolate business starter kit. Sell each bar at the recommended $14.75, and you’ve already made your money back — plus some.

After that, you can re-order bars any time for $6 each, minimum 12 per order. And if your bar gets listed on our website, you start earning commission on every online sale.

Once you commit to the Elite Sponsorship option, we'll help you sell a bigger batch of bars, we’ll put your bar on our website. Now you’ve got reach. A product. A real brand.

  • And every time someone buys your bar online? You earn $3.05 per bar in commission (available for Elite program).

This is about creating something with meaning. A bar that tells a story. Yours.

If you’re tired of passing the hat and ready to get creative — or if you’ve got a kid with grit and a goal — this might be the thing that sticks.

Let’s build something sweet, together.
