Hey there, friends—Chef Jeffray here with a tale of culinary mischief, St. Patrick’s Day luck, and a whisky twist you won’t soon forget.
It all began when our good pals at Suntory Whisky rang me up with a challenge: create a truly memorable chocolate bar featuring their new Ardray whisky. Now, this wasn’t just any whisky—it’s a bold nod to Scotland’s legendary whiskies seen through the refined lens of Suntory’s Japanese heritage. They wanted something extraordinary, and I had just two weeks to deliver. Two weeks! It felt like I had to find a four-leaf clover in a field of chocolate.
Most folks mix whisky into chocolate after it’s been made. But I thought, “Why not shake things up a bit?” So, I decided to infuse the whisky during the conching process, right when the cacao beans were still mingling. It was like trying to teach a leprechaun to tap dance—challenging, a bit risky, and a whole lot of fun. With whisky’s water content threatening to throw our batch into chaos (and our machines into a meltdown), this was a culinary tightrope walk worthy of any St. Patrick’s Day parade.
As the days ticked down, my kitchen became a scene straight out of an Irish pub during a celebration—full of energy, a few spills, and more than a couple of jokes about finding gold at the end of the rainbow. I joked that our experimental chocolate was so daring, even the Irish leprechauns might raise a toast to it. And believe me, when the final product emerged—a smooth dark chocolate with just the right whisper of Ardray whisky—it was nothing short of a miracle. It had that subtle kick, like a wee sip of the good stuff that leaves you grinning like a leprechaun at a whisky festival.
For those who appreciate a fine dram, you know that Irish whisky charms with its triple distillation and silky-smooth finish—comforting like your favorite St. Patrick’s Day sweater. In contrast, Suntory’s Ardray offers a crisp, refined complexity that dances on your palate like a well-rehearsed jig. By merging these worlds into one unique chocolate bar, we’ve created an experience that’s as unexpected as finding a pot of gold in your cocoa mix.
With St. Patrick’s Day just around the corner, I’m thrilled to invite you to be among the first to taste this limited-edition creation. We’ve only got enough for one exclusive bottle, so consider yourself lucky if you get a piece of this culinary wonder.
Join me in celebrating a little bit of chaos, a whole lot of innovation, and the undeniable magic that happens when whisky and chocolate come together. Sláinte and happy indulgence!
